WHO was THE FASTEST
In support of the downwind dash 2013 we have created an online contest to find the sailor, kiter and supper who who logs the fastest average speed and top speed over the downwind course. Netering is easy, log onto www.freeworldsport.com and create you profile. If you have an iphone download the app from the appstore https://itunes.apple.com/za/app/freeworld-sport/id556814294?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 or follow the links from the site to find the app. If you have a GPS device, Garmin will upload directly to your profile, the rest will need to be imported but this is supported from the site. If this all sounds like to much of a mission, send me your name and email address and the GPS track from the downwind dash support@freeworldsport.com and we will create a profile for you and add your track. Don’t let your talent go unnoticed !

My personal feeling as a competitor is that there should be some better way of timing all racers without using spotters. The start is also still very chaotic and kites get damaged…maybe smaller groups, and definitely it should be a floating date, so that if the wind is not good enough that it can stand over till next day..Sunday? Your average kiter does not rock up with a kite of every size, only the top kiters and this is a family event as well? Back to the timing issue – I know overseas it has been done effectively — maybe you guys should chat to some international organizers? I know Olaf has been involved with some serious high profile events internationally…and he is in SA most of the time? Getting medals at the end for EVERY races that finished will also create a big loyalty towards the Dash.
Thanks Roy,
Sunday is always a hold over date, and again two weeks later if the first week end is a no go. Lat year all indications were for wind and after the first half hour delay, there was better than 15 knot over most of the course. Timing can be done if everyone has a GPS or suitable cell phone, the trick is to do it on the water. Organisers welcome any better suggestions.
